Mad About Swing's BIG WEEKEND

Last year's event was a big success, and we are planning on organising another Big Swinging Weekend for 2012, but the date has not yet been confirmed.  For the moment, you can find the details of 2011's Big Weekend below.     
    

Friday 29th April – Monday 2nd May 2011

For the 2nd year running, we're organising a Plymouth-based swing weekend to coincide with the Barbican Jazz and Blues Festival. The Big Weekend begins with a dinner dance on the Friday night. On the Saturday there's a Lindy Hop workshop with UK Champions Gary and Sara and Swing Favourites Bic and Simone followed by a second dance in the evening. With a line up of fantastic live acts, Swing Sunday takes place within Plymouth's historic Barbican.

Friday Night Dinner Dance

Our Big Weekend kicks off with our "Royal Wedding" Dinner Dance in conjunction with Will & Kate's Big Day... a heady mix of fine dining and classic swing! Numbers are strictly limited and advanced booking is essential. The only cost involved is your meal!

Saturday Lindy Hop Classes

With UK Lindy Champions Gary & Sara, Swing Favourites Bic & Simone and local teachers Duncan & Louise. With up to 6 hours of tuition per level, this year there will be 3 levels (beginner/improver, intermediate and advanced: see explanation).

Lead and
follow ratio:

We have good numbers for our intermediate and advanced classes but have now reached the maximum number of extra follows that we will allow. We are still accepting bookings from couples and single leaders but there are no longer any spaces for single followers. Sorry.

Saturday Night Swing Party

A night of awesome Lindy tunes to keep your feet happy all evening. On the decks will be the legendary Sugar Push DJ Bic Graham who went down an absolute storm last year. To top it off, all of your alcohol and soft drinks are provided free all evening!

Swing Sunday at The Barbican International Jazz and Blues Festival

Now in its 4th year, the festival takes place in the heart of Plymouth's historic Barbican and is jam-packed with an array of awesome Jazz and Blues talent. The Sunday is set aside for us dancers and to top it off, it's absolutely FREE! The festival continues on Monday too or alternatively, check out our gorgeous coastline.
