Duncan and Louise's Lindy Hop Workshops

4th February & 3rd March 2012

New for 2012, Mad About Swing presents two exciting lindy hop workshops with Duncan and Louise.

The Core Principles Workshop

Saturday 4th February 2012

Whereas most workshops focus on learning a bunch of new moves, this workshop is very different. We believe that the key to dancing well is understanding the core principles that underpin how partner dancing works. With a significant focus on lead and follow technique, this workshop will explore everything you need to know to become a better dancer. Covering topics such as relaxation, connection, spinning, fluidity, rhythm, pulse, body posture, syncopation and musicality, we won't only explain what to do but, most importantly, why. We're aiming this workshop at existing dancers who simply want to dance better. It doesn't matter whether you've been dancing for 2 weeks or 20 years since you'll be able to apply all of the core principles to your existing repertoire.

The Triple Step Fundamentals Fast Track Workshop

Saturday 3rd March 2012

Although Lindy Hop dancers utilise a wide variety of different footwork patterns, triple steps are the heart and soul of swing and the eight-beat basics are at the very core of the dance. We’ll be exploring swingouts from open (also known as the Lindy Turn) and from closed, as well as the circle and a small handful of variations. Although we do cover these figures in our weekly classes, this workshop will tackle them in greater detail with the objective of helping beginners to incorporate them in their social dancing and for more experienced dancers to make their swingouts more effective and polished. Although this workshop stands alone in its own right, we will be employing a number of the core principles covered in our February workshop. Therefore, it would be perfect if you were to attend both of them.
